The Epilepsy Center of Northwest Ohio

Improving the lives of people affected by epilepsy and those with developmental disabilities.

About Us

The Epilepsy Center of Northwest Ohio improves the lives of people with epilepsy and developmental disabilities through compassionate care, education, and support—helping each person live with dignity, independence, and community connection.

Epilepsy Services

  • Every journey with epilepsy is unique, which is why we provide individualized support to meet people where they are. From understanding a new diagnosis to navigating healthcare, insurance, and daily challenges, we walk alongside individuals and families. Our team connects people with local and national resources, offers emotional encouragement, and helps identify solutions that best fit their circumstances.

  • We offer practical, hands-on training sessions designed for schools, workplaces, and community groups. These trainings provide clear, step-by-step guidance on how to recognize different types of seizures, how to respond safely and effectively, and how to create supportive environments for individuals living with epilepsy. Participants leave feeling more confident, capable, and prepared to help when it matters most.

  • Living with epilepsy can sometimes feel isolating, but our support groups create a safe and welcoming community. These groups bring together individuals with epilepsy, caregivers, and families to share stories, exchange practical advice, and offer encouragement. Whether in-person or virtual, participants find connection, understanding, and the reassurance that they are not alone.

  • Peer groups operate independently of the Center, however, we will provide meeting spaces for any group. The Epilepsy Center is always looking for people interested in forming peer groups. The brackets we are trying to fill are parents of children (any age) with epilepsy, teens with epilepsy, and young adults (20–30 yrs) with epilepsy. These groups are confidential and can meet at any common location or time. If you have an interest in forming a group or if you are looking for a group, please send an email to info@epilepsycenter.org with your information. If a group is not available at the time of your request, your information will be retained should a group form in the future that will fit your needs.

  • We are committed to raising awareness about epilepsy, breaking down misconceptions, and fighting stigma. Through community education, public speaking, school partnerships, and collaboration with local leaders, we amplify the voices of those affected by epilepsy. Our advocacy ensures that people with epilepsy have access to resources, equal opportunities, and a community that values and empowers them.

Developmental Disability Services

  • Our Residential Services provide personalized, one-on-one support to help adults with developmental disabilities live safely and comfortably at home. From occasional check-ins to 24-hour monitored care, we tailor services to each person’s goals and independence level. Support includes daily living assistance, medical coordination, and encouragement to stay active in the community. We also serve as a provider agency for Ohio Shared Living caregivers, offering resources and guidance. Our staff build genuine relationships and become trusted companions who help each person thrive.

  • Our Adult Day Services create a welcoming space where adults with developmental disabilities can connect, grow, and belong. Participants build friendships through group activities, develop life skills with the support of compassionate staff, and take part in outings and volunteer opportunities that strengthen community ties. Safe daily transportation is provided, and programs run weekdays at our Maumee locations. Here, individuals discover new opportunities while finding joy in meaningful connections.

  • Vocational Services empower adults with developmental disabilities to gain skills, explore job interests, and work toward greater independence. Participants receive individualized support in building routines, communication, and workplace readiness. Opportunities include paid work crews, small business ventures, and employment training in areas such as cleaning, crafting, and customer service. With safe transportation and flexible options, our program helps each person grow in confidence while preparing for meaningful work and community involvement.

  • Managing finances can be overwhelming, especially for those receiving Social Security or SSI benefits. Our Money Management program offers caring, professional support to ensure bills are paid, budgets are maintained, and financial goals are met. Staff work closely with each individual to provide personalized budgeting, bill management, and financial education, including an 8-week money management class. With trusted oversight and compassionate guidance, individuals gain stability, protection, and the confidence to plan for the future.
